Floods Change Burial Plans
MUTTABURRA, March 8. Police tonight abandoned efforts to take a man’s body to Longreach for burial after being bogged and marooned by floodwaters for 24 hours.
The man was killed when struck by a truck in Muttaburra on Monday.
He was Jack Hill, 67, married, of Muttaburra, fencing contractor. Relatives asked that the body be taken to Longreach.
A contractor left Muttaburra with the body by truck on Tuesday, but became bogged 30 miles out on the Long reach road.
Muttaburra police carried the body back towards Muttaburra, using a dingy to cross flooded creeks. Tonight they brought the body the last eight miles on foot.
