Muttaburra –
CORONER’S INQUEST
On Wednesday last week before Mr. T. R- Hall J.P. deputy coroner, an enquiry was held into the death of Walter Sydney Hayman. Mr. A T. S. Findelator said that ‘Hayman and he had been fishing all day on the 29th Oct. at Cornish Creek, about 20 miles away, and returned to Muttaburra about 6 p.m. While unloading the gear from the truck, Hayman was helping to unload from the other side. He saw deceased pick up double barrel shot gun by the barrel and drag it towards him. Immediately there was an explosion, and Hayman fell to the ground, with a gaping wound in his chest.
Mrs. E. Stewart also gave evidence as she witnessed the accident from her residence, about 70 yards away. Mrs. G. Dickson gave similar evidence.
A verdict of accidental death was returned. Deceased had no relatives in Australia, but had one brother in London. He was 81 years of age, and for the past ten years had been living with Mr. Findelator.
