Notes

Walter was a 21 year old carpenter when he enlisted in the 25 Infantry Battalion - 1 to 8 Reinforcements (June 1915 - January 1916)
Ship Name: HMAT Seang Bee
Ship Number: A48
Date of Embarkation: 21/10/1915
Place of Embarkation: Brisbane

He received the MM due to his action:
At Bullecourt, France, on the night 6/7th May 1917, during a successful bombing attack in Hindanburg Line, Pte Jones after the Company Stretcher bearers had become casualties, volunteered to get the men back and he with two other men worked continually night and day under heavy artillery and rifle fire with the greatest of difficulties.

His splendid work and untiring energy was instrumental in getting all the wounded clear of his companies lines.

His devotion to duty and splendid behaviour cannot be too highly praised.
