Leonard was only 18 years old when he enlisted from Mount Cornish where he was working as a station hand.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 7 February 1917.
He was wondered in action in France on the 11 August 1918 and invalided to England then back to Australia.
