Died from Diphtheria

The Western Champion – Tuesday 6 August 1889
A child, the daughter of a carrier named Henry Jones, died last Monday night from diphtheria. The parents, who were camped on the road between Hughenden and Muttaburra, brought the child in fifty miles for medical treatment, but the doctor could not at that stage of the illness save the child. Much sympathy is felt for the parents, who are deservedly respected through the district. The child was buried on Tuesday evening in the Muttaburra cemetery, the P.M. reading the burial service. It is reported that another child, also belonging to a carrier, was taken ill on Tuesday, but I have not heard the rumor confirmed yet.
