E R Edkins J.P. held an inquest into the death of Thomas. He was buried in the Muttaburra Cemetery by William Pattenden with A Q Kitson and W Walford as witnesses.

Muttaburra
[Extract]: A Swede , who had been staying some weeks in town, and who was well known and liked in the district, committed suicide by hanging him-self to a tree in the billabongs of the Landsborough on Sunday evening. An enquiry was held to-day by Mr. E. R. Edkins, at which it was elicited that deceased had left the town to camp with some mates on the creek, and having heard that his brother (Charles Ehrardt) had committed suicide at Millchester, he appeared to have let it prey upon his mind to such an extent that he was watched by his friends, but managed to get away after dark and hang himself with a saddle strap, and though immediate search was made on his being missed, he was not discovered till daylight.
Work is, I am sorry to say, not as good as it might be, and we are all getting a touch of tightness in the money market; but we hope for the best Blight in the eyes is the fashion, almost everyone having one if not more eyes in a sling.
